Bhutan – ESG & the little Kingdom of Bhutan

This is the story of
ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) and
the little Kingdom of Bhutan

This is a cautionary story of success and urgency…………..
Bhutan is a “Carbon Sink”! They have already reached 2050 !
They continue to further their efforts. But they are part of planet Earth, so they suffer from the mistakes of others.

If all the World would make changes like Bhutan has……we would save Bhutan and the rest of us Humans!

In this post:
Bhutan is a Carbon Sink.
How have they Reversed Climate Change? (REALLY!),
Bhutan for Life,
AgainA reminder about all that Bhutan has been doing
Come together at COP 26 and dance!

31 October – 12 November 2021.

More and more extreme weather tells us that we must disrupt our routines and make new ones….. THERE IS ONE COUNTRY THAT HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE 2009.
This country isn’t just carbon neutral — it’s carbon negative

Bhutan is a Carbon Sink. Bhutan has reversed Climate Change!
>>>Bhutan can sink the equivilant of all of New York City’s CO2 each year.
“By 2020, we will export enough electricity to offset 17 million tons of carbon dioxide.”

“And if we were to harness even half of our hydropower potential, and that’s exactly what we are working at.  The clean, Green energy that we export would offset something like 50 million tons of carbon dioxide a year.  That is more CO2 than what the entire city of New York generates in one year.
That’s why we have promised to remain carbon neutral.  We first made this promise in 2009 during COP 15 in Copenhagen, but nobody noticed.  Governments were so busy arguing with one another and blaming each other for causing climate change, that when a small country raised our hands and announced, “We promise to remain carbon neutral for all time!,”  nobody heard us.  Nobody cared.  Last December in Paris, at COP 21, we retried our promise to remain carbon neutral for all time to come.  This time, we were heard.  We were noticed, and everybody cared.  What was different in Paris was that governments came round together to accept the realities of climate change, and were willing to come together and act together and work together.   All countries, from the very small to the very large, committed to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions.  The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change says that if these “so-called intended commitments” are kept, we’d be closer to containing global warming by two degrees Celsius.
It is crucial that all of us keep our commitments.
I thank you for listening to our story, a story of how we are keeping our promise to remain carbon neutral, a story of how we are keeping our country pristine, for ourselves, our children, for your children and for the world.

BFL Our Nature Our Glory Theme Song

Bhutan for Life
The Greatest Conservation Story Never Told
Blessed with a lineage of enlightened monarchs, Bhutan has consistently balanced national economic growth with cultural preservation, environmental sustainability, and social development.

There lies a small country in the Himalayas
Although it is one of the smallest in the world
It has one of the biggest commitments
This is Bhutan
We are all Bhutanese
Its most valued treasure is its nature and wildlife

A gift from our beloved King
We need to conserve it for the future
With the conservation of nature, we are also mindful
Of keeping harmony between nature and humans.
We aspire to eliminate any problem between people and wildlife.

We need to conserve it for the future
The serene nature and the wildlife gives us all a reason to be happy

Tshering Tobgay, Ex-PM of Bhutan, started the videos on this post. Please let him end them. ….
Not much has changed since he spoke in 2017.

HOWEVER, these are words that we should hold fast in our minds and hold our focus on world leaders, as they try to commit to the most important projects of the next 10 years!

16:18 minutes -Nice speech by Bhutan PM in UNO Sept 2017 [I think that he is using SEG, instead of ESG.]

It is time to focus on COP 26

“In my old industry, finance, climate is now mainstream, too.
And there is a simple reason for that.
Investors try to predict the future Because if you can do that, you can make money.  And increasingly, they think the future is GREEN.
It’s like hosting a disco, a bop.  You can get a hall, you can hire a DJ, but to make it work, your friends have to turn up and dance!
A clean future is in our grasp!
Come together at COP 26 and dance!

8:31 minutes – Alok Sharma: Why COP26 is our best chance for a greener future | TED – Jul 26, 2021

The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November 2021.
Governments, business and civil society need to work together to [disrupt and] transform the ways we power our homes and businesses, grow our food, develop infrastructure and move ourselves and goods around.

This is why the UK COP26 Presidency is working with countries and partners including the UN High Level Champions on Climate Action to:

A clean future is in our grasp!
Come together at COP 26

and dance!
