Something else to re-think, re-learn !
I was about to put together a “warning” post about all these new bio-fuels and how dangerous some of them are. Especially Methane. I have already put together a post about the fact that Horizontal Axel Wind Turbines are dangerous and maybe not the final answer to catching the energy of the wind. In other words, do we go forward to make the necessary changes, only after doing all necessary regulating/standardizing and testing of “climate fixes”? Only after the home-work, do we build the good alternative methods to fit with planet Earth? I do not believe that in the case of Wind Turbines that is true.
Somewhere along the line, all this development that mankind is doing to correct the mistakes of the industrial revolution may be happening too fast. OK, we are in an emergency. Maybe it is our only choice for the short term, but if you ask me…. we may be making bigger mistakes, because bottom line…we are not doing this in the way, at the speed planet Earth does it! Human speed is 20 times faster than Earth’s fastest speed.
Planet Earth does things very slowly.

The Holocene is the name given to the recent 10,000 to 12,000 years of the Earth’s history — the time since the end of the last major glacial advance. Since then, there have been small-scale climate shifts — notably the Little Ice Age between about 1200 and 1700 A.D. The chief climate trend of the Holocene can be regarded as a warming period of the previous Ice Age that began in the Pleistocene (the period beginning about two-and-a-half million years ago and lasting until the beginning of the Holocene).
What a wonderful climate we had here on planet Earth – up to a few decades ago !
If you want to know what the climate was like in the Holocene, simply go outside, ON A NORMAL DAY, into nature and look around. The Holocene has supported the development and growth of human civilizations. It has been its climate cradle.
WHO: The long-term good health of populations depends on the continued stability and functioning of the biosphere’s ecological and physical systems, often referred to
as life-support systems – that we have experienced in the past. If we ignore this long-established period of calm climate, we do so at our peril. It is all too easy to overlook this dependency, particularly at a time when the human species is becoming increasingly urbanized and distanced from “natural systems”. Natural systems that are now coming under pressure from the increasing weight of human numbers and economic activities.
The Natural Systems that favor human existance, were not put here over-night.

The geological time scale (GTS), as defined by international convention depicts the long spans of time from the beginning of the Earth to the present. Its divisions chronicle some definitive events of Earth history. (In the graphic: Ga means “billion years ago”; Ma, “million years ago”.) Earth formed around 4.54 billion years ago, approximately one-third the age of the universe, by accretion from the solar nebula.
Volcanic outgassing probably created the primordial atmosphere and then the ocean, but the early atmosphere contained almost no oxygen. Over time, the Earth cooled, causing the formation of a solid crust, and allowing liquid water on the surface.
The Last Time CO2 Was This High, Humans Didn’t Exist
The last time there was this much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the Earth’s atmosphere, modern humans didn’t exist. Mega-toothed sharks prowled the oceans. The world’s seas were up to 100 feet higher than they are today. The global average surface temperature was up to 11°F warmer than it is now. …
Scientists have found that CO2 levels have not been as high as they are now for at least the past 10 to 15 million years.

“That was a time when global temperatures were substantially warmer than today. There was very little ice around anywhere on the planet. And so sea level was considerably higher — around 100 feet higher — than it is today,” said Pennsylvania State University climate scientist Michael Mann, in an email conversation. “It is for this reason that some climate scientists, like James Hansen, have argued that even current-day CO2 levels are too high.
There is the possibility that we’ve already breached the threshold of truly dangerous human influence on our climate and planet.”…
A climate to have gloried in.
New research may resolve a climate ‘conundrum’ across the history of human civilization
Earth’s surface temperature warmed rapidly at the end of the last ice age. After about 17,000 to 7,000 years ago, the rate of warming slowed as the climate stabilized. However, it didn’t reverse into a cooling trend, because atmospheric greenhouse gas levels were rising.
Then, of course, came the Industrial Revolution, ONLY, 200 years ago. … Over the past 7,000 years, when human civilization began to develop and thrive, Earth’s temperatures and climate were quite stable. The temperature change during the past 7,000 years was about 0.5°C. Humans have caused that much warming in just the past 25 years.
If not for the human influence, the climate would continue the stable conditions of the past 7,000 years. Humans are in the process of destabilizing the climate. We are causing global warming at a rate 20 times faster than Earth’s fastest natural climate change. That’s why climate scientists are so concerned, and why the Paris agreement is so important.
The subject is SPEED.
We feel the need to quickly fix the problems.
But at what SPEED?
? Do we choose to plan carefully regulating climate fixes to mimic planet Earth?
? Or – at the reckless speed at which Humans have caused the changes, we are trying to fix.

Of course, nature will carry on regardless, albeit savaged. As the MIT physicist and humanities professor Alan Lightman has noted, “tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions happen without the slightest consideration for human inhabitants”.
Yet if we turn our backs on nature, while at the same time climbing the population hill to nine billion people, we will create a horrid future for humanity’s survivors. It will be a future with ongoing wild species extinctions and a world polluted by human-invented chemicals.
It’s surely a trajectory, a take-off, that’s worth canceling.
We have already accepted that this climate change is not what we want!

I hope we are doing ALL the home work (regulating climate fixes) needed to catch wind energy the way that fits planet Earth. Maybe I am wrong, but: I Say The Future Is VERTICAL Axis Wind Turbines!



Think about the work that has gone into the the Ocean Cleanup to get to the point where they catch plastic…..only 7 years. Rather quickly! But with a substantial team of researchers who have, as of today, researched and published over 20 scientific publications on the oceans and plastics. Information available to those who need the information world wide.
Do it! But, do it right! Cover all Bases.
Think about the fact, that the Mushroom Protective Packaging industry has taken 12 years to get off the ground at Ecovative Design…. and they are now well documented and ready to take on the world.

They are, by far, one of the most sophisticated and most thorough certifiers of what is really “well and correctly made for planet Earth”. You can get some idea of what people have done to get that certification – case studies – and what criteria are used.
As to Bio-mass based BioFuels…… I am not the only one that is wondering about the problems of regulating, standardizing the new bio-fuels.

Why guidance on biogenic emissions would be timely
Investor interest in fossil fuel alternatives has significantly increased in recent years, making the need for guidance on claims of climate benefits particularly acute.
In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Derek Horstmeyer, a professor of finance at George Mason University, analyzed inflows of money into “sustainable” or Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) U.S. stock exchange traded funds and mutual funds. He found that in December 2016, one month after President Trump’s election,
“a staggering $2.1 billion flowed into U.S. equity sustainable funds…The ‘Trump
bump’ (which was the largest single monthly increase into the sustainable
investing class ever) was 170% larger than the next-largest one-month inflow.
And the growth has continued. Since the election, $8.1 billion has flowed into
these funds, a 13.1% jump from the assets under management on the eve of the
2016 presidential election – by far the greatest percentage inflow into any class or
style of fund (e.g., value, growth, small-cap funds) since the election.”
Horstmeyer reported that environmentally-focused funds account for “just about half of all U.S.
equity sustainable focused funds.”

As of now (effective 1 January 2019), the new GREET 3.0 model applies to all new pathway applications. Current GREET 2.0 pathways are valid until 31 December 2020. They must be transitioned by this time to registration under the 3.0 model. All 2019 validations (for pathways under both models) are still performed directly by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). They use their previously established validation procedures, but this is about to change.

Jul 25, 2012 – Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Argonne has developed a full life-cycle model called GREET (Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Transportation). It allows researchers and analysts to evaluate various vehicle and fuel combinations on a full fuel-cycle/vehicle-cycle basis. The first version of GREET was released in 1996. Since then, Argonne has continued to update and expand the model. The most recent GREET versions are the GREET 1 2012 version for fuel-cycle analysis and GREET 2.7 version for vehicle-cycle analysis.

GREET (The Greenhouse gases, Regulated Emissions, and Energy use in Technologies Model) is a computer program that you can download. You can use it to check the requirements for developing your system ideas correctly – for the bio-fuel industry. From what I see, a “cradle to Grave” structure is used, not a “cradle to Cradle” structure. In other words, it explores something like gasoline until is combusts in an engine….it does not discuss what happens next………………………….
