SO the Precious Plastic worldwide community continues
to Collect, Cleaning up the mess and USE the bad plastics piling up on land and in oceans.

There is good reason for this, as fossil fuel Plastics still dominate the industry and market.*

The new Bioplastics have a long way to go before they take over the entire plastics market. We are talking into the 2030’s at the earliest.
Compostable Plastics already have a bit of a foothold and these new industries need to fill their workforces, increase volume and bring down the cost of bioplastics.

BUT there is still a big worldwide mess to clean up.

July 2024 – …Currently, most initiatives for greener plastics are in the experimental stage.
…Governments can spearhead this change – similarly to how the European Commission banned plastic straws and implemented a deposit scheme for plastic bottles to promote recycling….

How will the market for bioplastics change in the coming years?

 In 2016, Grand View Research stated that bioplastics controlled less than a 2 percent share of the plastics industry in 2015. They predicted that bioplastics would control a 5 percent market share of the total plastics market by 2020 ( and a 40 percent share by 2030, making bioplastics a $324 billion-dollar enterprise in just over a decade.
[In April 2019 it was reported that Bioplastics covered approximately 10-15% of the total plastics market and would increase its market share to 25-30% by 2020.]
So the climb is a little faster than once predicted, but still fossil fuel plastics will dominate the market for some time.

Hey world !

This is a heavy message to send,
but essential for the future of
Precious Plastic.

We will either make it or not.  

After years of pushing boundaries in plastic recycling and building a global community of change-makers, we’re at a crossroad: 
1:  Let Precious Plastic Die: It build a global community of recyclers, it achieved its mission and that’s it. We learned valuable lessons and the community will probably stay online for a bit but would slowly fade away.
‍2:  Push it to the next level: There is still lots of plastic waste around the world. We need way more people recycling and R&D on other plastic types. The community needs to grow. I have provided a detailed overview of all the current problems we have, how it got to this point and whats next.

If enough action is taken we can move forward and will share a more detailed plan for Version 5.
If not, we are willing to accept that the project will just die.
